Even before it was named, Westport was overlooked. Europeans had been sailing up and down the western coast of North America since the 1500's. It wasn't until 1792 that an American sea captain by the name of Robert Gray discovered what would become Grays Harbor where Westport is located.

When you discover Westport, be prepared to be surprised and delighted by what you find. Once a legendary fisherman's paradise, this sleepy coastal village remained undiscovered as trendier tourist meccas grew up in Seaside and Lincoln City in Oregon, and Ocean Shores and Friday Harbor in Washington.

Every sea and surf recreational activity imaginable is at your front doorstep. The charming coastal forests, breathtaking sunsets and 18 miles of virtually deserted sandy beaches await your exploration. With only 2,000 residents, Westport's streets are quaint, quiet and unpretentious, without a hint of commercialization.  A picturesque port with watercraft of all kinds from yachts to kayaks is framed by the historic Westport Maritime Museum, with interesting shops and restaurants lining the waterfront.
